Kaaviya Thalaivan creates revolution in theatre distribution system
Lots of technical revolutions and newfangled narrative style of film making has been turning the spotlights on Tamil cinema. Now it has an additional bonanza of adapting a new revolution of distributions. Thanks to Dream Factory that is releasing Siddarth-Prithviraj-Vedhika starrer Kaaviya Thalaivan, directed by Vasantha Balan and produced by Varun Manian of Radiance Media in collaboration with Sashikanth of Y Not Studios. Dream Factory has now introduced a new methodology of distribution named ‘NRA – Non Refundable Advance’. This method of distribution has been quite predominant in the Telugu film industry that facilitates minimum risk of loss for distributors and maximum level of profit for producers.
So far, Tamil industry has been dominated by minimum guarantee process that has indirectly caused some loss to film distributors. Say for instance, when a film is bought by distributors for a whopping price of Rs.1Cr and if the collection exceeds than this margin say around 1.5 Cr, they would be offered with a 15% risk commission followed by 50-50 share of profit. This means, the distributor would be given a commission risk of 15 Lacs followed by 50-50 share that would 25 lacs. For a distributor who bought the film for 1Cr, they can afford a profit of just 40lacs. Whereas, NRA trade would enable an equal share of profit, where the deposit remains non refundable, but the profit would be shared on the equal basis. Moreover, when a film starring particular actor becomes hit, making collection around 20 Crores, their abrupt next project would be sold for a same price tag, which costs lots of risk to the distributor. But when it comes to NRA methodology, the film will be sold for a decent price of say around 10Cr that significantly enables a decent share of percentage between the distributors and producers.
Kaaviya Thalaivan starring Siddarth, Prithviraj and Vedhika has been produced a whopping budget of Rs.20Cr and the Dream Factory releasing this film is spearheading with this concept of NRA in Tamil Nadu for the first time. Siddarth movies have been decently faring well in box office with commendable collections and the studio believes that Kaaviya Thalaivan will surely capture the universal audience for its grandeur, top-notch technical and narrative style.
Kaaviya Thalaivan is hitting screens on November 28 and this new method of distribution system will undoubtedly create a new revolution in Tamil industry to ensure best profit for both producers and distributors.
